Synopsis: Bunny is a hustler out on a job when things go sideways and he’s thrown into a fight for his life. With the help of his best friend Dino, this fight kicks off one hot, endless, New York summer day spent scheming with the neighbors of their East Village tenement building to try — and repeatedly fail — to hide a dead body. Did I say body? I meant bodies. The cops keep sniffing around, the downstairs neighbors want to party, an Airbnb guest longs for love, an estranged father resurfaces, and Bunny just wants to make it through the night.

Based on The New Yorker short story by Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, Paranoia is a story about American identity and how it influences both our daily motivations, as well as our long term beliefs. Through the character of Robbie, an undocumented immigrant, the film illustrates the experiences all immigrants have gone through: crafting one’s identity as an American, juggling between where you’re from, where you’re now, and what’s expected of you. This balancing act forces one to ask what it means to be an American. Does it mean speaking flawless English, changing one’s name so it’s easier to pronounce, or being in line with mainstream opinion? Is legal status or place of birth a determining factor to how American one is?
